show and tell - a houseplant, favorite or otherwise

I've never been much of a houseplant person. I don't care much for pets either as a matter of fact.
But we do have a couple of plants, and, touch wood, they seem to be doing all right.

I've learned to plant impatiens in my window boxes - with a little vinca vine for an accent.
Over the years K and I have told each other that certain plants which would not normally survive in other people's yards in this hemisphere would survive in ours.
And we have been wrong.
Wrong, people - as wishing does not make it so.
These window box plantings do survive though, and, if it ain't broke: don't fix it. (This is ALL FOR SUSE, this language...)

Then there is my lemon tree.
It lives part of the year in various locations IN the house and part of the year in the front yard, next to the path.

lemon tree use

It makes intoxicating flowers each year, I cross pollinate it with a paint brush and my last crop of Meyer lemons numbered over a dozen and a half.

Finally, there are two little trailing plants on my kitchen windowsill.
I haven't a clue what they are but they seem to survive.
plants

They have even been gracious enough to let me shove them in a different pot for the duration of the christmas season to allow me to plant miniature cedars in these red pots. I throw out the cedars when they die and then re-plant these ivy-like things.

Show and tell for this week was suggested by this lovely lady - whom I know by a couple of different names. Her blog is one of those that I have found myself reading and nodding along with. It would seem that she and I have very similar children, and reading her insights into hers has helped me better understand mine.

I'm up. I took a detour and wrote a novel at kirala.

(actually, I'm not up, but I will be in two shakes of a lambs tail if Blogger isn't acting weird again.)

I love your plants. I am very jealous. I have two pots of dirt that I did not take pictas of for s&t: a tomato plant that died right away, and a geranium that died of a broken heart (I forgot about it--so sorry!)

I really, really like your lemon tree. I've always thought I'd like to have one, but if you have to cross pollinate by hand I think I'll pass. I grow impatients in a cement donkey in the front yard. His name is Hoety, the donkey Hoety. My oldest named him, he's very literal (the kid not the donkey). Heh, heh. I'm up.

hey baby, thanks for the link. I'm going to have to get a decent digital camera so I can keep up with the show and tell scene occasionally! The one I have is so not fun to use that I avoid it whenever possible. any suggestions?

I'm playing this week! (I took beautifully artistic photos of rocks on the beach for the last s&t but my husband deleted them from the camera - grrr).
I like those trailing ivy thingies in the pots.

Alas, we have no houseplants. Not a single one.

Oh! But I do have a lemon tree (an IMPROVED Meyer) that lives outside year-round. A few months ago it had about a dozen teeny little lemons on it, but then we got something like four hailstorms in a row, and now they're all gone, every one. Boo hoo.

Oh, your plants love you! I don't have any house plants...no plant I've ever had in my house has loved me! So I don't have anything to show this week...hopefully next week I will.

I am so lost. How did I miss the show and tell. I love the show and tell. I looked Tuesday and did not see the post about what to show and tell. Where did I go wrong? Doesnt really matter this week. I do not have one single houseplant. Not one.

Your kitchen houseplants look like Creeping Fig to me, or Ficus pumila. It is a pretty plant and very easy to care for.

What fun! I just found you, and am looking forward to poking around all the other blogs. You have some wonderful ideas here.

I've posted my one and only houseplant on my blog.

Hand polinating your lemon tree with a pastry brush is DEDICATION! My Meyer lemon tree (which lives outside all year round - we do not mollycoddle ours - has two greenish lemons on it right now. V.exciting).

And what was the language that was meant for me? Not being ungrateful, just obtuse. The "ain't broke don't fix it" bit??

Not sure what the plants are in the window. Almost look like Ginko Biloba . How thick are the leaves.
